David Boland is the Music Development Officer for Music Generation Galway City, where he leads the development and delivery of high-quality music education programs for young people. Drawing on years of experience in the local music and cultural ecosystems, he has been instrumental in advancing youth music initiatives such as Sós, Livefeed, Black Gate Beginnings, Going Coastal, and the GCC Music Centre.

With a strong focus on collaborative leadership, strategic planning, and building meaningful partnerships with key stakeholders, David works to ensure that young people in Galway have access to diverse, inclusive music-making opportunities. His deep commitment to creating pathways for young musicians and fostering community-driven projects is helping to shape the future of performance music education in the city.

Music Generation Galway City is part of Music Generation, Ireland’s National Music Education Programme which transforms the lives of children and young people through access to high-quality, subsidised performance music education.

Music Generation Galway City has a Local Music Education Partnership (LMEP) whose membership includes representatives of agencies with responsibility for children and young people across a range of areas including music, access, welfare, arts, creativity, well-being, inclusion and diversity.

Music Generation Galway City is managed and supported locally by the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board, Galway City Council, Foróige, CYPSC, Galway City Partnership, Galway Childcare Committee, Youth Work Ireland Galway and Involve Youth Service.

The programme works in over 50 locations across Galway City. Matched funding raised locally with partners is provided by the Department of Education through Music Generation Ireland’s National Office.
