Geantraí – An Ghlúin Úr
On Sunday, March 16th 21:30, TG4 will premiere Geantraí- An Ghlúin Úr. Filmed during Galway Tradfest, featuring over 200 young musicians
Music Generation Galway County is currently working towards adding Brass, Woodwind and Percussion sections to the Symphonic Waves regional youth orchestra, and is now encouraging all interested musicians in the area to meet with conductor Professor James Cavanagh.
Auditions for the orchestra will take place on 17 February 2019 in Claregalway. Young musicians of grade 6 standard or higher, aged 13 - 21 years are very welcome to attend.
Specifically, the orchestra is recruiting for players of the following instruments:
• Brass - French horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba
• Woodwind - Flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon
• Percussion - Timpani and general percussion
This is a great opportunity to play advanced repertoire in a West of Ireland Orchestra with a highly accomplished membership and artistic team. The orchestra is a project of Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture and holds monthly rehearsals and annual residential programmes with performance opportunities throughout 2019, 2020 and beyond.
Participation in Symphonic Waves promises to be a unique opportunity for young musicians – including those already participating in other orchestras and ensembles – to advance their playing.
