Young Musicians invited to learn & perform with the Masters in Sligo in June.
Music Generation Sligo is delighted to announce a week of masterclasses for young musicians (singers & instrumentalists) with Dervish and West Ocean String Quartet in early June. This unique collaboration where two professional groups will share their 'trad' and 'classical' worlds with young Sligo musicians, is part of Music Generation Sligo’s Music Fusion Programme to celebrate Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann Sligo, funded under the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership Programme.
Music Generation Sligo is calling on young instrumental and vocal ensembles ‐ trios, quartets, quintets ‐ classical & traditional ‐ or young musicians/singers interested in forming ensembles. The week will intersperse fun, improvised collective performance with more serious ensemble work through mentoring and performance with professional musicians from Dervish & West Ocean String Quartet. Participants will be actively encouraged to develop their understanding of structure in classical and traditional music.
As part of this Music Fusion programme, Music Generation Sligo will hold an intensive Composition Workshop the preceding week 3‐6 June 2014 with composer Neil Martin and, on 10 August, will present a Fleadh Fusion Concert at the Hawk's Well with Dervish, West Ocean String Quartet, Sligo Academy of Music and Young Ensembles.
These camps are part of the full Music Generation Sligo Summer Camp Programme, just launched, which offers a variety of exciting music camps throughout June & July with experienced musicians and tutors. Camps vary from general music and song activities for all ages and abilities with Anything Goes, Sligo School of Rock, Cairde Arts Festival Percussion & Song Camp and Singskool ,through to camps for more experienced young musicians at Sligo Jazz Project Youth Academy and the Orchestral Adventures Camp. Camps take place in Ballymote, Coolaney, Grange, Sligo Town & Tubbercurry where Music Generation Sligo has partnered with the South Sligo Summer School to offer discounted tickets to Composition Workshops & Masterclasses.
