Children’s Chapter is an exciting new music project developed by Music Generation Louth as part of the Music Generation / Arts Council Partnership.
Organised in collaboration with Louth Contemporary Music Society as part of the Music Books Festival, Children’s Chapter is designed to share a love of new music with children and to inspire them to compose.
As part of the project, third class groups from Realt na Mara National School have been invited to work with Children’s Chapter composer Deirdre McKay and Music Generation tutor Helen McArdle. Over the course of two music workshops at the school on 10 and 17 June, the children will have the opportunity to experiment with sound, compose their own music and, most of all, have fun!
They will also have to chance to meet and enjoy music-making alongside the Festival’s top-class musicians Garth Knox (viola) and Agnes Vesterman (cello) who will visit the school for sessions on 17 June.
The project concludes at the Music Books Festival lunchtime concert at St Nicholas’ Green Church, Dundalk on Saturday 18 June at 1pm. Here, the children will join Garth and Agnes on stage to premiere their new ‘musical chapter’ as a special encore.
The Music Books Festival takes place in Dundalk on 17 and 18 June, featuring a host of world-class musicians and composers.
The lunchtime concert, entitled ‘Book of Love’ promises to appeal to audiences young and old and will be a fantastic opportunity for all the children and their families to hear and see fabulous world-class players in action.
Children’s Chapter is an initiative funded under the Music Generation / Arts Council Partnership.
The Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership enables children and young people across the Music Education Partnerships to engage actively with high-calibre professional musicians from all genres of music. The Arts Council has invested €450,000 in the programme (2013-16) which is now facilitating an ambitious range of residencies, collaborative performances and composition projects around the country.
