Music Generation Laois is delighted to announce that Brendan Begley, internationally acclaimed traditional Irish musician, will be joining their talented pool of tutors at their Traditional Summer School. Brendan will deliver lessons on the accordion.
A variety of traditional music instruments will be taught – here is the current line-up of tutors and their instruments:
Fiddle – Denise Boyle
Accordion – Breanndan Begley
Bodhran – Robbie Walsh
Concertina – Eoin Begley
Harp – Claire O Donnell and Una Ní Fhlannagain
Uilleann Pipes – Leonard Barry
Flute – Gerry O Donnell
Masterclasses with Catriona McKay (Harp) and Chris Stout (Fiddle) will take place on Thursday the 3rd of July.
Music Generation Laois Traditional Music Summer School - programme information
Tuesday 1 July – Thursday 3 July, 2014 at the Portlaoise Youth Education Centre, Railway Street, Portlaoise (former Portlaoise Educate Together premises)
Junior Trad Camp: The 3 day Junior Trad camp is an introduction to music for younger children with Robbie Walsh of ‘The Bodhran Buzz’. This camp will run from 10am-11:30am daily, and promises to be a fun introduction to music for 7 – 9 year olds. All instruments are supplied.
Fee: €30, Age: 7-9 year olds, Times: 10am-11:30am daily
Senior Trad Camp: 3 day camp with workshops in fiddle, harp, uilleann pipes, concertina, flute and accordion with top-notch traditional musicians. The Summer School will culminate with a student concert on Thursday 3rd of July and will include masterclasses with the amazing Scottish Musicians, Caitriona McKay (Harp) and Christ Stout (fiddle). Catriona McKay and Christ Stout will return to Portlaoise in September to perform with Seamus Begley as part of a Music Network tour. Senior Trad Camp participants will also get an opportunity to take part in bodhran workshops with Robbie Walsh of the ‘Bodhran Buzz’ – bodhrans will be supplied!
Fee: €50, Age: 8 and upwards (adults welcome), Times: 11am-1pm, 1:30pm-3:30pm Daily
