The past year has certainly been a busy one for the musicians and children teaching and participating in the Music Generation Carlow programme. And now the team are delighted to announce the latest event in their jam-packed musical calendar!
Over 930 children from various primary schools around Carlow are set to participate in an exciting recorder event in the Seven Oaks Hotel Carlow from the 11th-14th March 2014. A series of high-quality, fun-filled instrumental workshops will be delivered to participating schools by the renowned Irish instrumental group The Gregory Walkers over the four days and will include a series classes focusing on percussion, guitar, bass guitar and recorder.
Participating schools from around Carlow include Askea Girls NS, Askea Boys NS, Bennekerry NS, Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal, Gaelscoil Eoghan Ui Thuairisc, Bishop Foley NS and Scoil Mhuire Lourdes from Tullow. All of the above schools are participants on the Music Generation Carlow Encore ‘recorder’ programme since the programme was established in September 2013.
This exciting four-day event will run from 9.30-2.30pm daily and will involve a team of 10 highly trained musicians from the Music Generation Carlow programme. This team of musicians will participate and assist The Gregory Walkers in the various classes and workshops scheduled over the four days.
The Gregory Walkers consists of Laoise O’Brien (recorders), Malachy Robinson (violone), Eamon Sweeney (guitar) and Francisco Turrisi (percussion). The group specialise in the performance of Early Music and have combined their diverse experiences and talents to present an exciting and refreshing approach to the performance of old music.
Since September 2013 Music Generation Carlow has been delivering over 98 units of music tuition across pre-school, primary, secondary and community educational facilities and the programme continues to grow from strength to strength.
