Music Generation, the U2 and Ireland Funds’ supported National Music Education Programme initiated by Music Network, today announced that County Clare has been selected for participation in the fourth and final round of the programme. The Clare Music Education Partnership (CMEP) will receive over €400,000 in seed funding which will enable high quality, accessible music education programmes to be provided for children and young people in the local community. Currently Music Generation reaches some 15,000 children and young people across 10 counties, with today’s announcement expected to bring a further 5,000 participants into the programme over the next three years.
The CMEP aims to develop a range of affordable and accessible performance music programmes for up to 5,000 young people in County Clare by 2017. The CMEP will work in cooperation with existing providers and will establish the county’s first music education service, with a hub in Ennis and outreach locations in Shannon, Scariff, Kilrush and Ennistymon. This music performance programme aims to create a sustainable education model from nursery school up to post-primary and beyond.
