Junior Brass Band Interviewed by RTE 1’s Country Wide

Louth brass band RTE 1 country wide
RTE Radio 1’s popular Saturday morning radio programme Country Wide visited Music Generation Louth’s Junior Brass Band last Tuesday 8 April to listen in to rehearsals and talk to the boys and girls about being in the band.

Country Wide is presently working on a special feature on the Dundalk Brass Band due to be broadcast on Saturday 19 April at the early start time of 8.10am. It was keen to include Music Generation Louth’s Junior Brass Band in the programme as it was established last year in close association with the senior band to create a new generation of brass players in the town. Listen to this broadcast here.

The Junior Band programme provides an affordable way for children to access expensive instruments and receive high quality tuition. The young musicians take part in a weekly band rehearsal under the expert guidance of Music Generation Louth tutor Michael Gaskin who himself started out his musical life in the Dundalk Brass Band.

Music Generation Louth Coordinator Gemma Murray explains:

We are so pleased at how the junior brass band programme is developing. The group has only been playing for a year but already they are making a lovely sound. The young musicians are really dedicated and we are so fortunate to have Michael as their tutor. Everyone is practising hard now for the end of year concert in June when they will join all our other new Music Generation Louth ensembles for what promises to a brilliant end of year musical celebration.

Music Generation Louth welcomes inquiries from children and young people interested in joining the brass band programme. Contact: Gemma Murray, Coordinator, Music Generation Louth, LMETB, Chapel St, Dundalk Email musicgeneration@lmetb.ie and/or tel 042 93 64635.
