This May bank holiday weekend will see the return of Tuned In!, a Music Generation Sligo Masterclass and Performance Programme at The Model, in partnership with Sligo International Chamber Music Festival. This youth strand of the festival will offer young string, woodwind, piano and saxophone players and their tutors an opportunity to engage in a dynamic, intensive chamber music experience, specially-curated by Professor James Cavanagh (Royal Irish Academy of Music). The programme is open to both ensembles and individuals, of grade 5 standard or above.
Tuned In! will combine masterclasses and performances as participants deepen their understanding of music and improve their playing within the nurturing environment of Sligo International Chamber Music Festival. Students and tutors will have the chance to work with the festival’s internationally acclaimed ensemble-in-residence, The Vogler Quartet, and other festival musicians on selected repertoire, and to learn, network and attend Tuned In! festival concerts with other young musicians and ensembles.
Expressions of interest for Tuned In! are now being accepted.
The closing date to submit expressions of interest for Tuned In! is Thursday 2 March 2017. Please note submission of this form does not guarantee a place on the weekend.
Established in 2000 at St Columba’s Church, Drumcliffe, Sligo International Chamber Music Festival has become one of Ireland’s leading international chamber music festivals and is now a highlight in the annual calendar of music events. Some of the musicians and special guests performing as part of the 2017 festival include Hugh Tinney (piano), IB Hausmann (clarinet), Amatis Piano Trio, clair-obscur Saxophone Trio and Cassiopeia Winds.
In addition, this year’s festival will feature the world premiere of Gerald Barry’s ‘Midday’, written in 2016 in response to a co-commission by RTÉ and Sligo County Council to be performed by The Vogler Quartet and RTÉ Contempo Quartet. Performances and masterclasses throughout the festival programme will take place in Drumcliffe Church and The Model, Sligo.
Tuned In! is funded by Music Generation as a National Partnership Project, in association with Music Generation Sligo. Sligo International Chamber Music Festival is produced by Sligo County Council Arts Office and Music Generation Sligo, funded by Sligo County Council, the Arts Council and Music Generation Sligo.
