Expressions of interest are sought from established, student string quartets (ages 15 – 18) who wish to take part in a series of masterclasses as part of the inaugural Sligo International Chamber Music Festival, on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 April in The Model, County Sligo. The masterclasses will be part of the Tuned In! strand of the festival – an innovative youth programme presented by Music Generation Sligo and curated by Aoife Ní Bhriain.
Dates: Friday 29 April (5pm – 6.30pm) and Saturday 30 April (10am – 12 noon)
Location: The Model, The Mall, Sligo
Cost: €40 registration fee per student (includes all Tuned In! events and a concert / workshop with the Vogler Quartet at 5pm on Saturday 30 April)
Supervision: Please note that an adult leader or tutor is expected to attend with each Quartet and to be the contact person for the weekend. The tutor is welcome to attend the Music Education Networking Event on Friday 29 April from 5pm – 6.30pm, but is required to attend the masterclass Part 2 on Saturday morning (10am – 12noon)
Tuition: Workshops will be facilitated by Tim Vogler, members of the Vogler Quartet and Aoife Ní Bhriain
Accommodation: Quartets will be responsible for securing their own accommodation. The Festival will make enquiries on behalf of Quartet(s) if requested. Chaperones will be expected to manage the welfare of their group for the duration of the weekend.

Formerly Music in Drumcliffe, the Sligo International Chamber Music Festival has become one of Ireland’s leading international chamber music festivals and is now a highlight in the annual calendar of music events. Under Artistic Director Tim Vogler, the festival offers its loyal audience and new visitors alike the opportunity to experience high standards of programming through a fresh choice of artists including vocal ensemble amarcord, Aoife Ní Bhriain, Crash Quartet, Mesefe Quartet and Caimin Gilmore performing alongside the internationally acclaimed ensemble-in-residence, the Vogler Quartet.
This year Music Generation Sligo has come on board as a key partner with Sligo County Council Arts Office to develop an innovative youth programme – Tuned In! This impressive Festival Youth Programme is a new short intensive chamber music experience curated by Aoife Ní Bhriain for student string quartets and their tutors combining masterclasses and performances. Participants will deepen their understanding of music and improve their playing within the nurturing environment of the festival. Students and tutors have the opportunity to work with the Vogler Quartet on selected repertoire and to learn, network and attend Tuned In! Festival concerts with fellow students and tutors.
