Music Generation Sligo has a variety of summer camps in store to suit all musical tastes and abilities. There are several opportunities for young people aged 4-18 years of age to further their musical knowledge while making friends and having lots of fun in the process.
Monday 22nd June will kickstart the summer camp programme with two camps taking place in Sligo town. Renowned musician and composer Neil Martin will be in The Model for the week guiding participants through the art of composition. This camp is a fantastic opportunity for young experienced musicians who are interested in creating and composing their own pieces. Neil will be joined by Brendan Graham during the week, to introduce songwriting. Described as a ‘musical midas’ his song You Raise Me Up, with a thousand recordings and a billion internet views, is one of the most successful songs in the history of popular music.
On the same week the other side of town, in the recently opened Rumble Rehearsal Studios, three of Sligo’s talented musicians and tutors; ‘Famous Dave’ Flynn, Sinead Conway and Stephen Kohlmann, will prepare young musicians to end the week with a show stopping performance. This camp is aimed at budding teenage musicians with musical experience who would like to improve their stage skills in a variety of musical genres.
Singskool returns to the ArtDeco Theatre Ballymote on 20th July. This ‘Glee’ style workshop, action packed with musical games and activities, is perfect for 7-14 year olds. It’s a fantastic week that concludes with their very own show. Participants may start the camp as beginners but they are guaranteed to leave as superstars! What’s more, a new Singskool Mini will take place the following week especially for 4-6 year who will also get their chance to shine.
Music Generation Sligo is also extending the Go See scheme to a number of independent Summer Camps this year where young people under 18 can pay half price to take part in the week’s activities or attend masterclasses or concerts at the Junior Davey Bodhran Academy, South Sligo Summer School and Sligo Jazz Project. Music Generation teams up with venues and festivals all year around through the Go See Scheme to offer half price tickets to under 18s to music events. Look out for the Go See logo at the Hawk’s Well, The Model, Sligo Live and more.
Summer Camp bookings are through the Hawk’s Well Theatre. Book online www.hawkswell.com or Tel: 071 916 1518.
