Currently in its fourth year, Music Generation Carlow has four core strands to its music programme: ‘Little people, BIG VOICES’; ‘Encore’; ‘Bravo’ and ‘The Hubs’. These four programmes provide a progressive musical education catering to pre-school, primary and secondary level students within Carlow County.

Proposed project

The specific aim of this project is to engage the imagination of primary level children and provide them with an informative and exciting experience through interactive concerts.

The project will engage with eight national schools currently enrolled on Music Generation Carlow’s ‘Encore’ programme.

All children involved in this programme have been receiving classes focused around recorder tuition for the duration of one to three years. It is envisioned that over time all schools involved on this programme will develop to offer wind or brass tuition to the senior students within each school. Currently one ‘Music Rich’ national school is providing trumpet, trombone, clarinet and flute lessons to all students in 4th, 5th and 6th classes.

The concert series is required to take place over three consecutive school days, with each concert lasting 90 minutes. The attendance at each concert will range significantly, from approximately 55 to 190 students. Therefore, please address in your proposal certain variations to your concert outline to accommodate significant changes in audience sizes.

The proposal should detail a full concert outline that will be used to engage fully in a collaborative manner with the children. The children as musicians should be at the centre of the artistic vision at all times. Music Generation Carlow welcomes all exciting plans and ideas that your ensemble wishes to propose but please consider a selection of different musical genres, interactive activities and compositional features to provide an educationally rich experience. This experience should be a co-constructed music-making performance between the professional musicians and the young musicians in the room.

Where necessary, Music Generation Carlow musicians currently working with the children are willing to work with the group(s) prior to the event in order to have musical ideas and concepts prepared.
