At Music Generation Carlow, young musicians between the ages of 13 and 18 years will take part in a Band Development Project throughout the first two weeks of August. Led by Wall2Wall music and funded under the Music Generation / Arts Council Partnership, this opportunity will give aspiring musicians a fantastic chance to explore song-writing, improvisation, recording and production of their own music. The Music Generation Cork City Summer Programme is exploding with activities for children and young people ages 6 to 18 years. Presented in partnership with local community music organisations throughout July, this feast of youth music-making will include programmes in rap & beats, brass band, trad, pop, choral, as well as the annual Youth United in Music (YUM) Festival. Music Generation Laois Trad Summer School takes place over three jam-packed days, from Friday 15 – Sunday 17 July, offering workshops with expert musicians in fiddle, harp, uilleann pipes, bodhrán, concertina, flute and accordion for ages 8+. Each evening a special performance will be held at Portlaoise Youth Education Centre, culminating in a tutor and student concert on Sunday 17 July. Music Generation Limerick City’s Summer Programme for teenagers features a programme of unprecedented scale, including music camps in seven different areas of the city, song-writing sessions, band mentoring opportunities, outdoor gigs and more! Dates and details can be found online.
In Louth, Corda Connections, a creative music camp for young string players, will take place from Monday 4 – Friday 8 July at Dundalk IT. Funded under the Music Generation / Arts Council Partnership, this is a fantastic opportunity for participants to learn to arrange and compose their own music with musicians from the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Music Generation Louth and renowned Composer Elaine Agnew.
Music Generation Mayo Early Years Summer Camps have already gotten off to a great start with lots of little creative people brimming with musical ideas! The next Camp takes place in Ballina from Monday 4 – Thursday 7 July. You can book your place online by filling out the registration form. And for slightly older young musicians, Mayo Summer Jam Bands will run four-day camps throughout July in Westport, Ballina, Ballinrobe, Castlebar and Claremorris. Music Generation Sligo’s Musical Horizons summer school features a packed programme of creativity delivered by a team of exceptional musicians and tutors. Throughout the week (Monday 4 – Friday 8 July) young musicians will build on their technique and musicianship in masterclasses, discover the secrets of song-writing and composition, experience ensemble performance and band settings, and join a celebratory end-of-camp show for family and friends. Young Musicians in Bray and Blessington have been treated to Rock and Traditional Irish Music Camps, with Summer Samba sessions set to take place from Monday 11 – Wednesday 13 July.
